Could a collection agency build predictive pairing in-house?
A large agency could build a version of it. The question is whether it would beat paying for it. BestPair’s fee is 10% of the extra collected against a control group, with a $2,500 monthly minimum, so the agency keeps 90% of the extra. An in-house build needs a standing team to keep the models right, carried by one floor.

What an in-house build takes
- A data pipeline. Call records, payments, the collector roster and account details, joined and cleaned every day.
- Models for every collector on every kind of account, rebuilt as results come in and as collectors join and leave.
- An assignment step that picks the best set of pairs within each collector’s capacity each day.
- Delivery to the floor, as daily lists or as segments in the dialer’s router, without breaking existing routing rules.
- Measurement against a control group every month, scored on dollars collected per account contacted.
- People to keep it right: data, modelling and dialer skills, kept on staff after the build is finished.
The trade-off
Most of that cost stays the same whether the floor is small or large, and one agency carries all of it. BestPair could not run on a single large agency either. Most agencies get a better return from training collectors and winning new placements than from running a modelling team.
How the fee compares
The fee is 10% of the extra collected against a control group, with a $2,500 monthly minimum, so the agency keeps 90% of the extra. A month with no gap costs the minimum. An in-house team costs the same in a month when it finds nothing.
Where to start either way
The first question is the same for a build and a purchase: how far apart are your collectors on the same kinds of accounts? Which account details you would need.
Common follow-up questions
Can we start with the assessment and build ourselves later?
Yes. The Floor Assessment report is yours whatever you decide, and it shows how far apart your collectors are on your own history. That is the first thing an in-house team would need to know.

Would it be a bad idea to spend 45 minutes finding out?
If your shop does not qualify, you will hear it on the call, not after you have paid for a report.
